Jan 2014 was a wonderful month for us as we had the opportunity to deliver four lectures on literature searching / reference management.
One was at a preconference workshop – The International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (IHBPA) Conference, Mumbai – on Jan 9, two were at Research Methodology workshops, one at LTMMC (Sion Hospital) and the other at GSMC (KEM). LTMMC organized this for DNB students of their college as well as others. At KEM, the Dept of Medicine had it for residents and faculty of their department. The Indian Journal of Ophthalmology organized the workshop that was open to all.
All events had me doing the regular one hour lecture interspersed with questions and comments
For the KEM workshop, I had a request to conduct a group activity. About two hours before the event, the course organizer, Dr. Salagre mailed me the research topics that each group selected as an exercise for the workshop. So I worked on these, created search strategies and had them ready. Each group was given about 10-15 minutes to plan their strategy and then I demonstrated the same to them. They thus got a quick guide as to where they went wrong or could improve. This was a nice exercise!
