Dr. BK Nayak, former editor of the Indian Journal of Ophthalmology initiated a series of workshops on Research Methodology, during his tenure as Editor of this journal. The workshops are conducted twice a year. The current editor Dr. S. Natarajan continues this trend.
Dr. Nayak now continues this through the Maharashtra Ophthalmic Society too, and with the Dean of the Medical College, Dr Mrunal Patil, also an office bearer of the MOS, planned this one day event.
Vasumathi Sriganesh has always been a part of the IJO team and now is also with the MOS efforts. Both the Ophthalmological associations are making all efforts to conduct workshops and faculty who have offered support for the IJO, now offer it to the MOS as well
She reports on this event:
This time, faculty from Mumbai included Dr Sandeep Bavdekar (Prof of Pediatrics at Nair Hospital) and Dr. Sudeep Shah (Consultant Hepatobiliary Surgeon at Hinduja Hospital). Dr Bavdekar gave an extremely clear presentation about “Types of Studies”. Dr Sudeep Shah, a brilliant speaker gave a talk on EBM, explaining very clearly how EBM could be defined (in addition to the normal definitions) and stressed on the mathematical precisions and also the patients’ values. Another talk of his which I have heard several times and never get tired of was “I wish I had written that paper” – where he explains, with great touches of humour alternated with serious stuff, about why we should write!
Local speakers, from the college, included Dr. Sachin Mumbare who spoke on Basic Statistics. He made it simple enough for me to understand it! And that, I will assure you is a challenge. A Prof of Pharmacology gave a talk on Drug Trials in India and shared important amendments recently done
The program had an overall participation of about 200 people – both – from the college as well as local IMA members!
