Medicon – the Annual Event of INFORMER was held in the University College of Medical Sciences, in Delhi on the dates 11 – 14, April this year. I have had the privilege of attending every one of these except the 2nd in Coimbatore in 2010. The first Medicon (with that name) was held in KMC Mangalore in 2009, the 2nd in PSG Coimbatore in 2010, the 3rd – Grant Medical College Mumbai in 2011, the 4th in MGIMS, Sevagram in 2012 and this was the 5th. Before these five “Medicons”, there were two events in 2007 and 2008, which paved the way for Medicon as we know it now. Dr MG Deo – the champion behind UG students’ research triggered this annual event and I hope it only gets better every year!
This year, I actually squeezed out these two days from a family event (I was thankful that I could!). Medicon means a lot to me because of its core – the idea of prioritizing understanding of research during the Undergraduate days. I do feel that if good foundations are laid at this stage, then it has a ripple effect, the thesis planning during the Postgraduate education becomes easier and later on writing articles also gets easier. Medicon as an event helps the organizers and participants understand so much more about a Research Event too!
This year Lakshmi and I together conducted the workshop on Literature Searching and judged a competition too. We only regretted that we could not enjoy all four days of Medicon as we had other commitments.
